There is a very easy and quite cheap bus from Varanasi in India to Kathmandu but it does get in around 4am so beware that there are few taxis, may be worth booking one in advance to avoid a long wait. Also when exchanging money on the border, make sure to use your own currency converter to make sure they don't hugely rip you off. You need to know what a good exchange rate is and be firm!
