Mexico | Brief guide to Cancun, Tulum, Lake Bacalar and a good bus comapnySam Lebus | 22 Dec 2014
Stayed two nights in Cancun, a place lacking in character and pretty ugly. If it's party's you want, Cancun's what you want. We didn't explore a huge amount as it was our starting place, but apparently the beach is good.
Tulum, we really rate this place. Small, simply and relaxing place. We suggest renting bikes, no where is too far, can easily bike to beach and ruins. Great food, look for the simple local places (plastic chairs) party on the beach is good fun. The ruins arn't the best you'll see but there location is really amazing. We stayed at Hostel Tulum Naa, good and cheap.
Lake Bacalar. Also a really really cool place, beautiful lake, very relaxed vibes and small town. Try and stay in a hostel that's on the lake, so you get the best setting. We stayed at Hostel Casa Lahar. We did two nights, but if your looking to really chill out we suggest longer.
Travel, the buses in Mexico are really good. ADO is the main company, efficient, and comfy. But there are small buses (called collectives) which can you place to place probably cheaper. If going to Belize, Chetumal is the city to go to to get there.
